Shuji Nakamura is a materials scientist and engineer who invented the blue LED and co-invented the white LED. He is a professor at UC Santa Barbara and a recipient of many prestigious awards, including the Nobel Prize in Physics.
Biographical. Shuji Nakamura was born on May 22, 1954 in Oku, a tiny fishing village on the Pacific coast of Shikoku, the smallest of Japan’s four main islands. Farming is the principle occupation in Oku. Local farmers grow yams on steps cut into steep hillsides.
