Anthony William Gardiner (January 24, 1820 – 1885) served as the ninth president of Liberia from 1878 until 1883. He was the first of a series of thirteen True Whig presidents who held uninterrupted power until 1980.

He was Liberia’s 9th president but the 7th person to serve as president. When he took office, he was the only surviving signatory to the Declaration of Independence.
