Michael Gunar William Sanford (born February 4, 1982) is an American football coach and former quarterback. He is the former interim head coach [1] for the Colorado Buffaloes. He played college football at Boise State from 2000 to 2004. He then served as the head coach of the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers (2017–2018).
Mike Sanford Jr. joined the Minnesota coaching staff in January 2020. He serves as Minnesota’s offensive coordinator and also coaches the quarterbacks. Sanford has more than 15 years of collegiate coaching experience on his resume, including two years as a head coach at Western Kentucky.

Mike Sanford was named interim head coach on Oct. 2, 2022, following the dismissal of Karl Dorrell. He initially joined the Colorado staff as the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach on Dec. 17, 2021, returning to his western roots he previously experienced as a player and a coach.
