Ghent University ( Dutch: Universiteit Gent, abbreviated as UGent) is a public research university located in Ghent, Belgium. Located in Flanders, Ghent University is one of the largest Belgian universities, consisting of 50,000 students and 9,000 staff members.
La Universidad de Gante (Ghent University) fue fundada por el rey Guillermo I y se inauguró el 9 de octubre de 1817. En su primer año, contó con 190 estudiantes y 16 profesores. Las cuatro facultades originales eran Humanidades, Leyes, Medicina y Ciencia, y las materias de impartían en latín.
