This album Standards Rican-ditioned by Ray Barretto has a very special – albeit tragic – place in the history and in the everlasting library of Latin-Jazz.
David Sánchez (born 3 September 1968 in Guaynabo, Puerto Rico) is a Grammy-winning jazz tenor saxophonist from Puerto Rico.
These musicians usually play Latin jazz, but he wanted to feature them in a 1950's Blue Note style straight-ahead blowing session, in classic North American jazz standards.
16 de feb. de 2016 · Precisamente, fue Chris el encargado de concluir su última grabación “Standards Rican-Ditioned”, que realizó con los boricuas Hilton Ruiz, Papo Vázquez, David Sánchez, Adam Cruz y John Benítez para demostrar al mundo que los músicos puertorriqueños pueden interpretar el jazz con tanta o más pasión que los norteamericanos y europeos.
15 de ago. de 2018 · “Standards Rican-ditioned” fue su último regalo musical, falleciendo poco tiempo después de haber hecho la grabación. La última oportunidad que tuvo para hacer lo que más le gustaba: combinar sus raíces afrocaribeñas con otros géneros musicales.
19 de ago. de 2014 · Musicos como el pianista Hilton Ruiz -tambien fallecido en el 2006-, el trombonista Papo Vazquez (unico de los artsitas en la grabacion que habia trabajado anteriormente con Barreto), el bajista John Benitez o el saxofonista David Sanchez hicieron parte de Standards Rican-ditioned.
Standards Rican-ditioned, Ray Barretto presents a straight-ahead project with musicians of Puerto Rican descent well versed in jazz. The objective was to show that they could play in an authentic style of the old Blue Note, Riverside and Prestige dates of the 1950s and ‘60s, in song selections from the “Great American Songbook”.
