Castration is any action, surgical, chemical, or otherwise, by which a male loses use of the testicles: the male gonad. Surgical castration is bilateral orchiectomy (excision of both testicles), while chemical castration uses pharmaceutical drugs to deactivate the testes.

18 de ago. de 2010 · Although to many people castration signifies a barbarism that disappeared with the demise of the Ottoman empire, the Chinese dynasties, and the castrati movement in European music, there are surely more men living with removed or functionally arrested testes today than at any other time in history.
In the modern era, removing the human penis for any such activity is very rare (with some exceptions listed below), and references to removal of the penis are almost always symbolic. Castration is less rare, and is performed as a last resort in the treatment of androgen-sensitive prostate cancer.
