Æthelstan (/ ˈ æ θ əl s t æ n /; died c. 852) was the King of Kent from 839 to 851. He served under the authority and overlordship of his father, King Æthelwulf of Wessex, who appointed him.

When Æthelwulf became King of the West Saxons in 839 on the death of his father, Egbert, he appointed Æthelstan to rule over Kent, Essex, Surrey and Sussex.

' noble stone '; c. 894 – 27 October 939) was King of the Anglo-Saxons from 924 to 927 and King of the English from 927 to his death in 939. He was the son of King Edward the Elder and his first wife, Ecgwynn.

King Athelstan (c. 894-939) Athelstan (or Aethelstan) was the son of Edward the Elder and grandson of Alfred the Great. He was born to Edward's first wife Ecgwynn around AD 894. Edward died in 924, and Athelstan's half-brother Aelfweard immediately claimed the throne. His claim was supported by Wessex, while Mercia supported Athelstan's claim.
10 de jul. de 2014 · Æthelstan was the first King of Wessex to bring together all the Anglo-Saxon kingdoms in England. He was well educated, very pious and a collector of saints relics and manuscripts. He was also a formidable warrior.
