Axel Mackenrott (born 6 September 1969 in Hamburg, West Germany) is the keyboard player for the heavy metal band Masterplan. Axel began playing at around 11 years of age with piano lessons, and went on to eventually acquire a Bachelor of Arts in musical sciences.

Para tomar el puesto de bajista, arribó el Iron Savior Jan S. Eckert, quien también había grabado con Gordon y Rockship, entre otros, y el teclista Axel Mackenrott (Babylon 27, Catch the Rainbow) reemplazando al miembro original, el finés Janne Wirman, que estaba muy ocupado con Children of Bodom.
Axel Mackenrott replaced him on tour and soon after as a permanent member. Studio bassist Jürgen Attig (Casanova) helped with some bass lines on the recordings, but Grapow was the main bassist for the album. For tour and subsequent recordings, Jan-Sören Eckert was hired as a permanent member.
When the unrivalled vocal power and intensity of Norwegian powerhouse Jorn Lande (known from his work with Jorn, Ark, Millennium, and The Snakes?) united with the incredible musical and songwriting talent of former Helloween members Roland Grapow (guitar) and Uli Kusch (drums) in 2002, the whole Metal scene woke up.
