Around that same time, Rusty Milner and Tim Lawter left the band, and Toy Caldwell’s bass player Tony “Smoke” Heatherly joined. Now the lineup consisted of Doug Gray, BB Borden on drums, Heatherly on bass, Clay Cook on horns, Stuart Swanlund on guitar and Chris Hicks on guitar.

Longtime bassist Tim Lawter was succeeded by Tony Heatherly in 2001, who turned it over to Pat Elwood in 2004. Guitarist Rusty Milner left in 2003 and Stuart Swanland was there on and off (his health permitting) from 1985 until his death on August 5, 2012 at age 54.

Tony Heatherly played bass for The Marshall Tucker Band during the late 1990s and early 2000s. Heatherly’s bass playing provided a solid foundation for the band’s sound, contributing to their live performances and recordings during his tenure.
22 de dic. de 2007 · Toy was my all time inspiration for playing guitar, and his death rocked my world. I remember it was snowing outside when I received word, via a friend at WSPA-TV, that he had passed. Over the years, I have joined Tony Heatherly, Toy’s bass player, a couple of times to visit Toy’s grave on the anniversary of his death.
