JoBoxers are a British new wave group formed in 1982 when former Subway Sect members Rob Marche (guitarist), Dave Collard (keyboardist), Chris Bostock (bassist), and Sean McLusky (drummer) teamed up with England-based American singer Dig Wayne (born Timothy Wayne Ball, 20 July 1958, Cambridge, Ohio).
British musicians Chris Bostock, Sean McLusky, Rob Marche and Dave Collard had been performing together in the Jazz-influenced Subway Sect, the backing band for former Punk icon Vic Godard. When Dig and the Sect came together, the chemistry was instantaneous.
Between 1980 and 1982, as Vic Godard and The Subway Sect, Rob Marche, Sean McLusky, Dave Collard and Chris Bostock hosted a club in Soho every Thursday night at the Whisky-a-Go-Go (later abbreviated to the WAGG) in Wardour Street where the band played under the banner ‘Cool Bop & Swing’.
Drummer Sean McLusky joined guitarist Rob Marche in the indie-dance outfit If?, alongside Paul Wells. Bassist Chris Bostock joined Eurythmic Dave Stewart’s extracurricular enterprise The Spiritual Cowboys.
JoBoxers is a London-based band fronted by American expat Dig Wayne, with Rob Marche (guitar), Dave Collard (keyboards), Chris Bostock (bass), and Sean McLusky (drums). Marche, Collard, Bostock and McLusky played several times with Dig Wayne in Soho clubs as Subway Sect before disbanding in 1982.
