More than 650 students study at the Tashkent Islamic Institute. Applicants who have graduated from secondary specialized Islamic schools can apply to the institute. After graduating from the institute, students are assigned to work as imam-khatib or vice-imam in mosques in Uzbekistan as well as mudarris in madrasas.
The Tashkent Islamic Institute named after Imam Bukhari was established in 1969. It is under the supervision of the Administration of Muslims of Uzbekistan. It was rebuilt by the resolution of the Council for Religious Affairs under the Council of Ministers of the Soviet Union on opening a higher-level madrasa in Tashkent.

El Instituto Islámico nombrado tras Imam al-Bukhari fue fundado en 1971 por el prominente líder religioso islámico, predicador y erudito, Sheikh Ziyauddinkhan ibn Eshon Babakhan. A pesar de las dificultades, logró abrir el primer instituto de la Unión Soviética para estudiar el islam.
