After he left the group, he became disillusioned with the pop scene and decided not to pursue a commercial musical career. He went to Leeds University where he studied for a degree and masters in music and now runs a very successful business teaching the flute.
Diz Derrick replaced him in the group until they split up in October 1966. From 1963 until 1966 he studied at Leicester University, receiving an honours degree in chemistry. From 1966 to 1969, he worked for the government and studied for a PhD.
