The band was formed in 1998 by lead singer Greg Bertens. Initially, the band only consisted of Bertens working with members of Fuck and Pavement when they released their debut album Brilliant Career, on MeToo! records in 2001.

But as lead singer Greg Bertens explains, arriving there is a whole different story. “This is a poem I’ve returned to over the years, and I love the idea of this place, but getting there is life’s journey.”
