10 de jul. de 2014 · Blacking out refers to temporary loss of consciousness. It doesn't really apply here. Blanking out isn't a common expression. I've heard it used to refer to a student's inability to remember something simple on an examination. That doesn't apply here either. Freezing (up) means they lost the ability to move.

"A lot of /lots of " is more informal or colloquial. If you want something that’s middle-of-the-way between formal and informal, you can use “a great deal of.”. B.
