  1. James Duff, 4th Earl Fife, KT, GCH (6 October 1776 – 9 March 1857) was a Scottish nobleman. Duff was the son of Alexander Duff, 3rd Earl Fife and Mary Skene. On 9 September 1799, he married Lady Maria Caroline Manners (d. 1805), daughter of John Manners and Louisa Tollemache, 7th Countess of Dysart, but the couple had no children.

In 1759, William Duff was granted the historic Celtic Title of “Fife”, further tying the Duffs of Northeast Scotland, with their ancient Lowland ancestors - the original Earls of Fife from the 11th century.

  3. Administrative / Biographical History. James Duff was born on 29 September 1729. He was the second son of William Duff (d. 1763), Earl of Fife, Lord Braco of Kilbryde, Viscount Macduff, in the Peerage of Ireland. Like his father before him he was MP for Banff, elected first in 1754, then re-elected in 1761, 1768, 1774, and 1780.
