Convent Thoughts is a painting by the Pre-Raphaelite painter Charles Allston Collins which was created between 1850 and 1851. Collins sent it to the Royal Academy of Arts in 1851 where it was exhibited.. The painting shows a nun contemplating a passion flower symbolising the crucifixion of Christ. She is standing in a walled garden full of minutely detailed flowers.
Charles Allston Collins was the son of the artist William Collins, R.A., and brother of the author Wilkie Collins. He was part of the circle surrounding the Pre-Raphaelite brotherhood and his style was heavily influenced by their work. From the 1850s he turned increasingly to writing, and in 1860 he married Charles Dickens's daughter Kate.

Biography. Emma Sandys was born in Norwich, where her father, Anthony Sands (1806–1883), gave her some early art lessons. In 1853 the family added a ‘y’ to their surname.
