Solimán el Magnífico fue el décimo sultán del Imperio Otomano, gobernando desde 1520 hasta su muerte en 1566. Nació el 6 de noviembre de 1494 en Trabzon, en la actual Turquía, hijo del sultán Selim I y de Ayşe Hafsa Sultan. Desde joven, Solimán mostró habilidades excepcionales tanto en el campo de batalla como en la administración.
