Carmen (French: ⓘ) is an opera in four acts by the French composer Georges Bizet.The libretto was written by Henri Meilhac and Ludovic Halévy, based on the novella of the same title by Prosper Mérimée.The opera was first performed by the Opéra-Comique in Paris on 3 March 1875, where its breaking of conventions shocked and scandalised its first audiences.

乔治·比才（Georges Bizet，1838年10月25日—1875年6月3日），出生于巴黎，法国作曲家，世界上演率最高的歌剧《卡门》的作者。不足九岁就进了巴黎音乐学院学习作曲。后到罗马进修三年。1863年写成第一部歌剧《采珍珠者》。1870年新婚不久参加国民自卫军，后终生在塞纳河畔的布基伐尔从事写作。
