The History of Magdalene College. There has been a continuous tradition of academic study on the Magdalene College site for nearly 600 years. One of the most common questions we are asked is about the pronunciation of the College's name. Though spelt in the biblical and continental way, 'Magdalene', the College name is pronounced 'Maudlyn'.

Welcome to Magdalene. I have been Master of the College since October 2020 but Magdalene is very much in my DNA. I was an undergraduate at Magdalene and then a postgraduate student. Later, I taught Law as a Fellow of the College for nearly twenty years. My wife and I were married in the Chapel and our children baptised there.
Magdalen College (/ ˈ m ɔː d l ɪ n / MAWD-lin) is a constituent college of the University of Oxford. It was founded in 1458 by Bishop of Winchester William of Waynflete. It is one of the wealthiest Oxford colleges, as of 2022, and one of the strongest academically, setting the record for the highest Norrington Score in 2010 and topping the table twice since then.
